I was always meant to be a Garden Designer!
My grandparents came from Normandy and were farmers/ market gardeners.
The exhibition of Painting the Modern Garden at the RA reminded me of this.
Between the 1880s ant 1920s artist in Europe owned their own gardens and used them for inspiration for their art work.
The most famous was Claude Monet.
Others include Renoir,Gustave Caillebotte, JoaquinSorolla,Santiago Rusinol Emil Node and Pierre Bonnard.
The scenes they depicted include flower borders, shrubs and ponds.
The gardens were romantic, asthetic and tranquil.
Front gardens were places of status.
This exhibition is very well attended .
However, if you have time it is well worth a visit.
